Surfrider Foundation Rhode Island Chapter

Upcycle Contest

The Surfrider Foundation and Vissla have teamed up again to bring you the 2019 Creators and Innovators Upcycle Contest!

The Idea

Take waste collected during a beach cleanup and create something create something that can be used in the ocean.

We thought it would be fun to not only participate in Vissla’s national contest – but to also host a local contest to get more Rhode Islanders in on the action! All of the details will be the same as on Vissla’s website – but the Surfrider RI crew will be choosing three winners locally as well.

You must upcycle an old or found object into a functional wave riding craft (i.e. surfboards, handplanes, fins, alaias, skim boards, flotation, etc.) Be creative!

Ideally – the Rhode Island winner will collect debris found along the coastline in RI, whether at a beach Surfrider beach cleanup, or on your own, and use that debris for part of their project.

To Enter

All contestants must enter a video or 3-6 photographs showing their project from start to finish via Instagram using hashtag#CreatorsContest.

To enter into the Rhode Island contest participants must also tag @surfriderri in their post to be recognized. You may also send photos and a description of your project to our email > ri@surfrider.org

Please feel free to keep us posted on your progress as you work on your project!
