Here’s a little secret… we are all volunteers here at the Rhode Island Chapter. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the long-time activists as well as the groups of students that have dedicated their time.
Throughout the year we have many opportunities for volunteers. Whether you need community service credit or just want to come down and lend us a hand during an event, we’d love to see you.
Check out our Upcoming Events section on the right hand side of your screen. If you have any ideas for future events, let us know!
As a dynamic chapter, we have found many ways to involve our members and are always looking for enthusiastic people. See where your strengths can bolster our chapter.
Are you always on your SmartPhone following friends, finding events, and broadcasting your latest musings? Then we need you! This group of volunteers will be working with our webpage, Twitter account, and Facebook page. Genereally, increasing our online presence and keeping friends and followers up to date on our latest activities. Along with social media, its good to get a bit of press coverage every now and then. This group will manage our press contact information and reach out to them as per the Executive Board.
There is strength in numbers. This group of volunteers are going to be the cheerleaders, recruiting new members and re-instating past members who have dropped off the radar. Talk up Surfrider with your friends, neighbors, or random beach-goer. The more active volunteers we have, the more we can achieve as a group.
In Rhode Island, we are constantly running into people we know. Working with our supports and giving back to the community are an important part of our mission. Are you interested in event planning and fostering business community relationships? Then this volunteer group is right for you!
Do good while being outside working on your tan. We need people to help organize and participate in our various beach clean-ups throughout the year. In addition to our bi-annual clean-ups, we also maintain an Adopt-a-Spot along Ocean Drive. Come help keep it clean.
Ban the Bag Campaign
Sick and tired of seeing those thin grocery bags stuck in trees? Then join our campaign to ban the use of plastic bags, one business, one community at at time.
Blue Water Task Force
Are you concerned about the water you swim in? You should be. This group of volunteers go out on a regular basis to collect water samples from around the state. We are always looking for people to paddle out, and to update the test results online.
