Rhode Island Surfrider Foundation has a variety of programs in which its members can become involved. These programs represent the core of Surfrider and allow our members to become active within the local community. Our chapter works tirelessly towards the goal of protecting Rhode Island’s oceans, waves and beaches. Consider making a difference by becoming involved in Rhode Island Surfrider Foundation’s core activities:
The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) is a nationally supported Surfrider Foundation program utilized by individual chapters to monitor water quality, raise awareness towards coastal water pollution and advocate for state supported monitoring programs. Rhode Island Surfrider Foundation currently tests fourteen locations on a monthly basis year round. Data collected from water samples is used to educate the community about the water quality of the Rhode Island coastline.
Know Your H2O is our program that promotes education and action regarding the interconnections between water supply, urban runoff and waste water treatment. By rethinking our water management approach we can conserve water, save energy and reduce pollution in our oceans. The program is based on the simple mantra: reduce, reuse and recycle..
Rise Above Plastics is designed to eliminate the impacts of plastics in the marine environment by raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and by advocating for a reduction of single-use plastics and the recycling of all plastics.
