To those affected by Hurricane Sandy, the Rhode Island chapter of the Surfrider Foundation would like you to know that our thoughts are with you during these difficult times. Many of our friends along the east coast are in the process of assessing the damage, cleaning-up, and trying to repair their homes. It's in times like these that we see the best of the human spirit when people come together and help out. Once some of our hardest hit areas in Rhode Island are safe, we will be asking for volunteers to help out with a coastal clean-up in Matunuck or Misquamicut. Stay tuned for details.
In the meantime, there are other ways you can help. Our friends at Clean Ocean Access are having a beach clean-up in Newport this weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 3 from noon to 2pm, they will be at 1st (Easton's) Beach (west lot) and 2nd (Sachuest) Beach (surfers end). Please wear sturdy shoes and bring your own gloves.
EcoRI is also gathering volunteers for various projects. You can sign-up here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N3B9N83
